Kamilla Salgado, 23, from Belém, Pará, is the new Miss World Brazil. She edged out other 37 candidates representing all Brazilian states, the Federal District, nine islands and the Brazilian community in the United States.

The 1st runner-up was Isabelle Sampaio, Miss Fernando de Noronha, followed by Miss Rondônia, Suymara Sampaio (2nd runner-up), Miss São Paulo, Karina Pacheli (3rd runner-up), and Miss Paraná, Jhennifer Martins (4th runner-up).

Rounding out the group of 7 finalistas were Misses Rio de Janeiro, Jéssica Barros, and Rio Grande do Sul, Osyane Pilecco.

The event took place at the Hotel do Frade Golf and Resort, in Angra dos Reis. The candidates competed in 6 fast-track events before the Saturday's final (Sports, Talent, Beach Beauty, Best Model, Beauty With a Purpose and Popularity), and Miss Pará, Kamilla Salgado, won two of them (Beach Beauty and Beauty With a Purpose – she raised over 20,000 for an institute which takes care of poor children under cancer treatment), something that had never happened before.

Other 11 semi-finalists were picked by a preliminary panel of judges.

In the final event, the 17 semi-finalists paraded in swimsuits to the sound of Unidos da Tijuca's drums, something never seen before in a pageant. Unidos da Tijuca is the big winner of this year's world-wide famous Rio de Janeiro carnival parade.

Even the winner's crowning was very original: seven finalists stood on the stage, before the 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st runner-ups were announced. Three were left, and instead of announcing the winner, Luciana Bertolini, Miss World Brazil 2009, took the crown off her head, stood behind the three finalists, and after some suspense, placed the crown on the winner's head.

The new Miss Brazil has a BA in Business Administration, is finishing her Master's in Management, and runs her own company. She speaks English and some Spanish.

In Miss World, Kamilla will be dressed by Victor Dzenk, one of Brazil's top designers. She will be a standout in next year's Unidos da Tijuca's parade, and will go to Toronto, to participate in the Brazilian Ball. Kamilla won complete scholarships in the value of over $100,000 reals, a 20,000 minimum year contract, a contract with L'Equipe Agence, 5000 in chothes from Elaine Henrique, among many other gifts and prizes.

The new Miss Brazil, who comes from Belém, the gateway to the Amazon rain forest, will compete in the 60th edition of Miss World, in Sanya, China, on October 30. She will try to conquer Brazil's second Miss World title (Lucia Petterle won in 1971). Kamilla will be prepared by Alexander Gonzales and team in Venezuela, one of the most talented pageant coaches on the planet.

Due to the amazing success of this event, the Frade Resort made an official invitation and it was announced during the pageant that it will host Mister Brazil 2011, from May 1 to 8 (final on the 7th).
